Rebecaa Lee ‘Baby Talk’

Rebecca Lee is a heritage baby care brand in Sri Lanka that had gradually lost emotional relevance with mothers, overshadowed by newer, high-spending competitors. For Mother’s Day, Seeni Colombo was tasked with helping the brand reconnect using a modest budget and a braver point of view.

Instead of celebrating motherhood in the usual way, we looked at what often goes unspoken; postpartum depression. A condition that affects many Sri Lankan mothers, yet is rarely discussed due to stigma, leaving women to suffer in silence.

We chose to work with that silence.

The film features a mother alone with her infant, speaking in gentle baby talk. As subtitles appear, the audience realises her words are not playful, but deeply personal confessions of fear, exhaustion, and sadness shared with the only person who will not judge her. The film opened conversations and allowed mothers to feel seen. Rebecca Lee didn’t position itself as the solution. It positioned itself as a brand that understands motherhood as it truly is, helping it regain emotional relevance through empathy, honesty, and courage.
